Dr Michael Mosely has shared that there are foods you should cut out of your diet if you’re looking for reliable weight loss results – but there are plenty of tasty things to replace them

If you’re looking to be healthier but are struggling, Dr Michael Mosley has shared three foods you could try cutting out, claiming that not eating them can cause rapid weight loss.

When it comes to breakfast, Mosley suggested that there are certain things you should avoid completely if you’re looking to lose weight, as he recommended people “cut right down on sugar”.

This means that sugary cereals, pastries and sweet treats should be off the menu, as they will “give a sugar rush and then leave you feeling starving soon after”. Instead, you should opt for something that’s more filling, including porridge, overnight oats, and eggs.

Dr Mosley also recommended cutting out “sugary treats, sugary drinks and desserts” in general if you’re looking to lead a healthier lifestyle. Starchy carbs should also be avoided, according to Dr Mosley, who popularised the Fast 800 diet. These include bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice, reports The Express. Instead, go for whole grains like bulgur (cracked wheat), whole rye, wholegrain barley, wild rice and buckwheat.

Michael Mosley recently shared a Basic Bircher recipe on his TikTok channel, which is the perfect breakfast option for those looking to incorporate healthier breakfasts into their morning routines.

To make this delicious breakfast you only need rolled oats, grated apple, Greek yoghurt and a lemon. Sprinkle some chopped almonds, top with blueberries and store in the fridge overnight.

Health site Lifemd also said that these oats are great as they have a “high fibre content, which can make you feel fuller for longer. This helps to control your appetite, naturally reducing your calorie intake”. It’s also much lower in sugar, which Dr Mosley said it’s best to avoid if you’re looking for weight loss.

Dr Mosley, a regular on the ITV talk show This Morning, shifted 14lbs in just three weeks thanks to the Fast 800 Keto diet, which he developed with his wife, Dr Claire Mosley.

It should be noted that the Fast 800 Keto diet should not be followed as a long-term lifestyle plan, due to its restrictive nature. Instead, it is recommended as a short-term, rapid diet to help those who need to shift weight fast. Following a keto diet basically means reducing the amount of carbohydrates you eat, while increasing protein, healthy fats and vegetables.

It fits perfectly with the life-extending Mediterranean diet, which is built around fruit, vegetables, seafood, beans and nuts. In The Fast 800 Keto, Dr Mosley recommends following the rule of 50:50 – keeping carbohydrates under 50g per day and ensuring protein remains above 50g, all while keeping your daily calorie intake around 800 to 1,000.

If you’re looking to drastically change your diet, speak to your GP first to see whether it’s safe and appropriate for you to do so.
